Meet Channon Emigh, Dog Control Officer & Buildings & Grounds Supervisor

Dog Control with a Side of Town Beautification

Channon (pronounced Shannon “Amy”) is a lifelong Greenfield resident and has been a part of the TOG staff for 20 years. After more than a decade as a carpenter and painter, in 2004 Emigh heard there was a part-time job at Town Hall. She tackles one buildings and grounds project after the next along with her job as dog control officer.

Emigh has worked seven days a week as long as she can remember, always taking odd jobs of all kinds to help pay for her technical engineering courses at Adirondack Community College and eventually to build a home. She worked at Shirley’s Restaurant in her teens. She spent four years as a machine operator at Ellsworth Ice Cream and even had a short stint as a real estate agent. She is also a talented artist and it shows in her work. Emigh said she received a scholarship to attend a summer art program at Skidmore College as a youth. At Christmas time, she spends her free time handcrafting gorgeous custom wreaths.

“My mother says she can’t ever remember a day when I didn’t work all the time,” Emigh said. “I would never ask anyone for anything of monetary value ever.”

Emigh has is a talented landscaper who “loves making the town properties beautiful.” It is Emigh who takes lead on things like the beautiful flower beds in Town Parks, the fantastic flower boxes that adorn Town Hall windows each summer and the holiday decorations at Town Hall. Emigh often leaves flowers at the Town Clerk’s office or a painted pumpkin in a co-worker’s office at Halloween. While she reports to the Highway Department that oversees all town facilities, she helps every single department all year long.

“I like people to know that I care,” she said. “I have generations of friends and family in this town and it’s important to me that the town looks good. Having this job changed my life forever.”

“Channon works as hard as anyone I know,” said Supervisor Kevin Veitch. “She is happy to help when anyone asks and takes great pride in her work.”

Her favorite part of dog control is returning lost dogs to their owners. Emigh spent more than five years working at Saratoga County Animal Shelter and received several certifications as a dog behavioralist.

“I like to help Greenfield residents be responsible dog owners and good neighbors,” Emigh said. “I try to resolve issues between neighbors without court tickets whenever I can.”

Emigh has worked with six supervisors to date but especially loves working for Supervisor Veitch. “He is easy to talk to and makes us all feel like we are equally important parts of the team.”

Channon is a thoughtful, hard-working TOG staffer. You can call her at 518-577-6486 if you have questions for dog control.
